You can begin using Mederma products as soon as your wound has healed. Mederma is not intended for use on open wounds. If a scab has formed, wait until this falls off. While there is still a scab present, keep your wound clean and covered. Do not use on broken skin.

Mederma products do not contain sunscreen. It is important to protect all skin from the sun’s rays, but it is especially important to protect skin that is scarred or damaged from sun exposure. Using sunscreen on scars is important because the sun’s rays can discolour scar tissue. You may use your regular sunscreen alongside Mederma products.

Mederma Advanced Scar Gel can be used for scars on the lips. However, it should not be ingested, so great care needs to be taken. Confining Mederma to the scar only, gently massage a small amount into the scar until the product disappears. Do not apply Mederma to open wounds or around the mouth such as cold sores. Mederma should only be applied once the wound is healed.

Mederma can be used on scars from tattoo removal but should not be applied to open wounds, which includes fresh laser abrasions resulting from tattoo removal as well as fresh tattoos themselves. Always wait until the wound is healed and there is no scab before using Mederma. Apply as directed on the pack.

Allantoin is an odourless, non-toxic, non-allergenic chemical compound that is used as a moisturising agent and skin protectant in cosmetic products. Allantoin is keratolytic, meaning that it helps keratin in the skin to soften. This property enables hydration and natural skin regeneration more effectively. Products containing Allantoin are useful for many skin conditions, including scar care. Mederma Advanced Scar Gel and Mederma for Kids are formulated with Allantoin.

Unfortunately we cannot share this information. The percentage of Cepalin in Mederma is confidential as part of the product’s formulations. Cepalin is a botanical bioflavonoid which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Studies indicate that it can reduce rapid reproduction of cells during wound healing and can help decrease the risk of raised scars.
