For best results, start using Mederma as soon as your wound has healed. Do not apply to broken skin. Make sure the scab has come off naturally and any stitches have been removed. On older scars you may start using Mederma immediately. Continue using daily for at least 8 weeks on new scars and 3-6 months on older scars.

Mederma Advanced Scar Gel has been formulated to be applied once daily so you do not need to apply more frequently. We recommend using as directed on the pack. You can apply it at any time of the day but you may find it helpful to apply at the same time each day as part of a regular routine.
We recommend Mederma Advanced Scar Gel is applied once a day for 8 weeks on new scars and for 3-6 months on old scars. For optimal results, use the product as directed, once daily, every day. Massage gently until the product is absorbed. If peeling or flaking occurs, try using less of the product.
A key difference between the two Mederma products is that Mederma PM Intensive Overnight Cream is a cream and is formulated to help your skin’s natural night-time restoration process with Tripeptol™, whereas Mederma Advanced Scar is a gel and can be used any time of day. Both products help improve the appearance of scars with a once daily or nightly application.
